Wes Anderson Post #1

If you want the best new music news, this is not the blog. If you want the new tech news, this is not the blog. BUT if you want to know the latest news on Mr. Wes Anderson this is the blog. With that said, I have huge news:

On August 2, 2006, Production Weekly reported that "Owen Wilson will reunite with his long-time friend Wes Anderson on the director's next project." The article goes on to say that, "In the script, by Anderson, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman, Wilson will play one of three brothers who journey through India." Schwartzman and Adrien Brody will play Wilson's brothers. The Darjeeling Limited", and is scheduled to begin production in December 2006.

For all you who say, but what about "The Fantastic Mr. Fox?" Well, that is the next project but it has been in pre-production for about two years now and doesn't look like it's getting off the ground. While "The Darjeeling Limited" will not be out until late 2007 early 2008 I will go ahead and predict Anderson's first Oscar win. In addition the script is co-written by Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman! This guarantees to be nothing less then spectacular.

Hall of Fame Album

Silver Jews
"American Water" (1998)

My first "Hall of Fame Album" is one of witty lyrics accompanied by mood changing guitars from track to track. The album starts off with the line "In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection." Working as the Silver Jew's third LP, frontman David Berman weaves humorous lines of human observation and personal strife to connect to any one who pops in the album. The biggest treat is Stephen Malkmus (the genius behind Pavement) who plays lead guitar and pipes in on back up vocals. The album is basically made for people who live or have lived in the Kentucky area. The songs remind you of porch swings, flys swarming around a bottle of hot Dr. Pepper, and that muggy night of driving around doing nothing and everything at once.

Here are the track highlights:

Random Rules: The leadoff hitter, this song has slow strumming and lyrics that act as a portal into Berman's head. Berman exclaims "I know that a lot of what I've said has been lifted off mens room stalls."

Smith and Jones Forever: A sad pop song? A pop song that makes you think? Maybe its not a pop song at all. Whatever it is, Smith and Jones sticks in your head and the structure of the song works as a circle, "together, forever, and ever and ever..."

Send in the Clouds: Just listen below. This song is the anthem for Silver Jews and encompasses everything in which they are.

-SCRIPT CLIP-

ANNIE HALL

Written by WOODY ALLEN

INT. THEATER LOBBY.

A lined-up crowd of ticket holders waiting to get into the theater, Alvy and
Annie among them. A bum of indistinct chatter can be heard through the ensuing
scene.

MAN IN LINE
(Loudly to his companion right
behind Alvy and Annie)
We saw the Fellini film last Tuesday.
It is not one of his best. It lacks a
cohesive structure. You know, you get
the feeling that he's not absolutely sure
what it is he wants to say. 'Course, I've
always felt he was essentially a-a technical
film maker. Granted, La Strada was a great
film. Great in its use of negative energy
more than anything else. But that simple
cohesive core ...

Alvy, reacting to the man's loud monologue, starts to get annoyed, while Annie
begins to read her newspaper.

ALVY
(Overlapping the man's speech)
I'm-I'm-I'm gonna have a stroke.

ANNIE
(Reading)
Well, stop listening to him.

MAN IN LINE
(Overlapping Alvy and Annie)
You know, it must need to have had its
leading from one thought to another.
You know what I'm talking about?

ALVY
(Sighing)
He's screaming his opinions in my ear.

MAN IN LINE
Like all that Juliet of the Spirits or
Satyricon, I found it incredibly ...
indulgent. You know, he really is. He's
one of the most indulgent film makers. He
really is-

ALVY
(Overlapping)
Key word here is "indulgent.

MOVIES AND YOU

Two Films, a few thoughts:

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE:

One of the best films in the last five years. Indie films in the last few years have been notorious for making incredible trailers that are more thought provoking then the actual film (Thumbsucker, Garden State, The Squid and the Whale). These are all bullshit films with amazing trailers. Little Miss Sunshine is the real deal. Not since You Can Count on Me has an indie film slaped me across the face with its brutal honesty, quick witted comedy, and infectious characters that are real from start to end. It all started with the screenplay that is nothing short of amazing. The most amazing aspect of this film is that it not only spoke to a cynical twenty two year old who tries to hate every film he can, but it also moved my mother who deemed it "A really great film." This is my number one film of the year, easy.

SNAKES ON A PLANE:

I don't want to give a review of this film. It's fun. A lot of fun. And shame on you if you haven't seen it...you cost me tons of money for predicting that it would gross 100 million. Only 15 million you pathetic pieces of shit! Let's get this thing back on track, go buy tickets!
